Today in Yiddishkayt… December 21 Birthday of Arnošt Lustig, Czech Jewish Writer The Czech Jewish writer Arnošt Lustig was born December 21, 1926 and died earlier this year. From the age of 15 to 18, Lustig was imprisoned in Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, and Buchenwald. He finally escaped from a convoy heading toward Dachau and returned to Prague to help liberate the city from Nazi occupation.
